Our Story

&

Koltyr and I met three years ago on September 17th, 2013 at a Texas Roadhouse in American Fork. Thirty minutes after our meal ended, we were still sitting at our table laughing, so we decided to go to Nelson's Grove Park in Orem. That night, I decided to ask Koltyr out for our first date on September 20th.

Koltyr and I dated for eight months, before he left to China. When Koltyr left, I was worried that long distance might not work out, but I was wrong. Koltyr has time and time again proved me wrong.

We made it through two months of international video calls, early in the morning and late at night, but Koltyr got back to Utah two weeks after I had left for an internship in Sacramento. After three months of not seeing each other, Koltyr finally visited me in Sacramento.

When I moved to Seattle, Washington in February of 2015, I was no longer worried about long distance. On May 15th, 2015 I realized that I wanted to marry Koltyr, but it would be 11 months before I finally proposed to him on April 8th, 2016.

Koltyr and I have been dating long distance for about a year and a half, and I'm excited to not just anticipate monthly visits. I look forward to always having Koltyr by my side.

Our Story

The Proposal

On April 8th, Koltyr showed up to Memory Grove Park, in Salt Lake City, thinking he was about to film a music video. He had recorded a cover of "Brand New" by Ben Rector, and thought the song was part of a side project for a friend. What Koltyr didn't know, is that the song would be used for his own proposal, and that I had collaborated with his friends to create a mashup of our favorite songs.

Special thanks to the following people:

  • Andrew Thomas for the instrumental track.

  • Velvet Echo Studios for recording and mixing the song.

  • Lexi Schaffer for helping with the choreography.

  • Brandon Webb and Christie Berube for keeping Koltyr in the dark.

  • Brenna Empey for filming.
